So you know you need new siding, and you’ve even found a siding contractor you might be interested in using. Next, make sure to ask the right questions so you can feel confident in your choice. Part of the estimate and interview process allows you the chance to learn everything you can about a siding contractor so you can decide whether they’re truly the right contractor for you. Aside from of course asking if a contractor is licensed and insured, here are a few questions we recommend asking:
It can be hard to take a siding contractor on faith alone. Of course, you can check out their website, looking at the products and services they offer and the history of the company. But these are still abstract, and don’t give you a clear idea of exactly the kind of work they’ll do on your home. Something more concrete would be examples of past work. Maybe they can direct you to a job site or show a gallery of before-and-after pictures. You can also ask for referrals from past customers who can speak to their experience with the contractor.
When asking about warranties, it’s important to read the fine print. Many contractors will say that they offer lifetime warranties, but this may only be a lifetime warranty on the product itself, with a limited warranty on their labor. Fortunately, you don’t have to settle for this. The right contractor will be confident enough in their work to offer a lifetime warranty, both on the product from the manufacturer and the labor.
At a minimum, your siding contractor should be licensed and insured. But do they have any more certifications? Some truly exceptional contractors will have additional certifications showing that their skills go above and beyond. Some might be a “preferred contractor” to a popular manufacturer, or might be EPA certified. Homesealed Exteriors has these certifications, as well as a Vinyl Siding Institute certification.
